EEF Endowment

In March of 2001, the Alaska Engineering Education Foundation (AEEF) Board established the AEEF Endowment. AEEF activities include Mathcount and ASPE/AEEF scholarships. The Endowment is comprised of three funds within the Endowment: Mathcounts, Scholarships and General. Contributions to any or all of these individual funds help assist in funding Mathcounts and the general operations of AEEF, and independently fund a yearly scholarship. The goal of the Endowment is to provide a continuing funding source to support these. In 2009, we raised more than $11,000 for total Endowment contributions. The earnings of the Endowment are proportionately distributed to each of these three funds on a yearly basis.

In the future, Mathcounts could be funded by the Endowment, or activities could be expanded to include more schools around the State. The ultimate intent for the Scholarship fund is to be able to award multi-year scholarships to worthy engineering students. The AEEF Scholarship fund has provided $1,000 scholarships for each of the last four years. The revenue for the General fund may be used at the discretion of the AEEF Board for administration expenses, to support potential new programs, one-time educational events or Mathcounts or Scholarships. The ASPE/AEEF scholarship committee manages the scholarships with the recipients announced during Engineers Week, held annually in February. To have your contribution go specifically toward MATHCOUNTS or the AEEF SCHOLARSHIP FUND, please go directly to that page to make your contribution.

The establishment of the endowment has been a major step forward for ASPE (Alaska Society of Professional Engineers) and AEEF. To make the Endowment effective in achieving the goals established for the AEEF Endowment, we need to increase the principal for both Mathcounts and Scholarship funds to a minimum of $100,000 in each of these two funds. We encourage everyone to get behind the effort to make this a successful venture. In addition to individual contributions, employer contributions are also welcome. Contributors will be recognized on a cumulative basis. See column at right for current standings.
